about

lyrics

With the influx of experimental electronic music pouring in, it can be difficult to sift through the best of the best, but it’s the DIY imprints that usually set the stage. Clean Error is one of them. With a hefty catalog spanning several years, this digital label has had a consistent focus on IDM sparks and continually pushes the proverbial envelop. For Volume Two in the series—V1 came out just a few months ago—there’s no stopping the creative inspiration. This compilation also features a nifty interactive 2D Maze (instructions can be found on the Bandcamp page), and is quite simply a behemoth with almost two hours of nonstop complex circuitry.

Randomform delivers an emotive glitch-hop punch, Epal Gedanke offers arcane DSP shuffle, D-Fried with an IDM lullaby from yesteryear, Nearfield overtakes the senses via windswept clicks’n cuts downtempo, and Peninsolar manipulates his beats with an air of ambient, CD skipping tentacles. But there’s a whole other discovery to be found on EV2, static noise exploration by Ksztalt, atmospheric buzz jolts by GEC, microscopic rhythm jabs by encoder, organic/detuned instruments by ogrvne, and old-school Gescom collage smudging by enabl.ed, .kri tik, and brken mute. The sonic chaos is seemingly organized by artists like YX, Blochemy, Cyuild Apo, and Oe (who happens to bring a nostalgic Boards Of Canada flare). Downtempo mechanical spritzing comes courtesy of Eddy Krueger as well as the Lexaunculpt-inspired Ksztalt moniker—bringing this 18-piece compilation full circle.

So there you have it, Clean Error delivers on their promise of intramural dynamics, and we wholeheartedly agree. An auditory backdrop that is equal parts abstract strands and precision electronics for 2018.
