D-Fried leaves synthesizers in the background to focus on guitar and bass as essential instruments in the elaboration of his new album “Buto”. Like the contemporary Japanese dance form, his tracks slowly grow from silent to screaming, paying attention to details, constantly evolving in unexpected directions. Infinitely twisted over-processed guitars, minimalist bass-lines and electronic sequences, creating a universe in constant expansion, between tension and release, in a symbiosis of opposing forces.

“Buto” is clearly inspired by the Berlin School, but also by masters of ambient music like Brian Eno or Harold Budd, or artists like Biosphere or Fennesz, but with a defined personal style that distances him from any mimicry. Atmospheric yet rhythmic, experimental yet melodic, subtle but also epic, “Buto” is a solid, seamless album, ready to pull strings you didn’t suspect you had.

The artwork by Masato Takahashi aka Buna, is the perfect cherry on top of the cake: handmade paint in violent beauty of colorful strokes, matching perfectly with the spirit of the music that contains.

French label Kalamine Records, with a vast catalog of ambient and experimental music, adds a new tone to its already extensive color palette with this release, that we’re sure will have a good response.
